WHAT’S ON IN HAMMERSMITH

From perfume masterclasses and community cycling events to dance festivals and theatre productions, we outline what’s on in West London | May 2023 in Hammersmith.

SATURDAY 6TH MAY – CORONATION STREET PARTY @ THE ANDOVER ARMS

The Andover Arms are hosting a coronation street party. There will be an outdoor bar, projector, performances by their team, BBQ and games for everyone to enjoy.

SATURDAY 6TH MAY – CORONATION PARTY @ KING STREET AND LYRIC SQUARE, 11 AM – 6 PM

A traffic-free Coronation Party to mark the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort will be held along King Street and at Lyric Square.

A big screen on Lyric Square will be showing the coronation live, alongside face painting, food stalls with cuisines from around the world and live music and entertainment, including a Mad Hatters tea party.

Local Hammersmith and Fulham traders will also be there at a pop up market.

SUNDAY 7TH MAY – BIG CORONATION LUNCH @ BISHOPS PARK AND RAVENSCOURT PARK, 12 PM TILL LATE

Grab your picnic blanket for a big Coronation lunch, followed by live streaming of the King’s Concert.

There will be live music, kids crafts and rides, alongside food and drink supplied by Urban Food Fest.

Urban Food Fest will be providing food in both parks, including burritos, gourmet burgers, toasted sandwiches, falafel, alongside sweet treats gelato, cake and cookies.

RAVENSCOURT PARK

At Ravenscourt Park, children can enjoy pony rides, face painting, games and crown making with Kite Studios.

Sports sessions with QPR Football Club, martial arts with Reflect CKD, drone flying with Urban Flyers and giant Jenga will also be available.

Live entertainment, including performances by Bunny Nightingale and the Ukrainian Choir will take place.

BISHOPS PARK

At Bishops Park, children can enjoy face paintings, funfair rides, giant board games, drone flying, crown making and bubbles.

Fulham Football Club will be holding a free have-a-go session and martial art displays will take place by Reflect CKD.

Live entertainment will be available including jazz, dance workshops and Fulham Brass Band.

FUTURE PERFUMES: AN INTRODUCTION TO SUSTAINABLE MASTERCLASSES @ 4160TUESDAYS STUDIO, 42A RAYNHAM ROAD, W6 0HY

Small batches of fragrances are created, blended and poured by hand to be dispatched worldwide in this independent artisan perfume studio in Hammersmith.

In the sustainable scent masterclass, you will discover innovative renewable perfumery materials and spend two hours creating your own fragrance and testing a sample of Sarah McCartney’s new perfume, made from upcycled naturals, sustainable molecules and organic grain ethanol.

Within this masterclass, you will be be able to smell and use all these renewable perfumery materials, including a green chemistry biodegradable lily scent and a delicious chocolate waft from upcycled cacao husks, and take home a refillable 15ml French glass bottle of perfume.

UNTIL 13TH MAY – THE GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN @ LYRIC THEATRE

Selected as a best theatre pick for 2023 by The Guardian, Daily Telegraph and The Times, The Good Person of Szechwan is being performed at the Lyric Theatre.

Based in the hustle and bustle of a modern-day metropolis, three gods reward Shen Te’s hospitality with a life-changing sum of money. With this money, she opens a tobacco shop and claims the stability she’s always dreamed of. However, forced to question the cost of her own survival, she resorts to scheming and deceit to flourish in this capitalist world.

DRAMATIC DREAMS WORKSHOPS @ RIVERSIDE

Dramatic Dreams is a London based children’s theatre company who provide outstanding after-school clubs, holiday workshops and in-school curriculum workshops for children aged between 4 and 18.

Classes include their Saturday morning classes with classes for children in years 1 – 3 from 9.30 am – 11.30 am and children in year 4 from 11.30 am – 1.30 am.

SUNDAY 14TH MAY – COMMUNITY CYCLING DAY @ TURNHAM GREEN

To celebrate active travel across the two boroughs, Hounslow Council in partnership with LB Hammersmith & Fulham will be delivering a Community Cycling Day.

The day will consist of a cycle ride led by qualified ride leaders from Heathfield Terrace in Chiswick to Lyric Square in Hammersmith and back. The ride is suitable for families and cyclists of all abilities.

Outside of Chiswick Town Hall and on Turnham Green, there will be stalls and activities. These will consist of a Cycle Safety Awareness Session, a performance by the Bicycle Ballet Co., a second hand cycle market by Peddle My Wheels, stalls from local cycling and active travel businesses and many more.

The event is free. Food and drink stalls from local businesses will also be available.

FRIDAY 19TH – SATURDAY 20TH MAY – DANCEWEST FESTIVAL @ LYRIC THEATRE

For the first time since 2018, London’s biggest dance festivals returns to Hammersmith.

Previously called Ignition Dance Festival, now DanceWest Fest, the festival will consist of performances from dance groups and schools, alongside four new commissions from Lea Anderson, Jamaal Burkma, Gerrard Martin and James Wilton Dance for local audiences to enjoy.

WEDNESDAY 24TH MAY – LONDON’S MASTER PIECES: THE ART OF BANKSY @ LINDEN HOUSE, W6, 7.30 PM – 8.30 PM

In partnership with Art Historical London, Linden House will be diving into some of the world’s greatest artworks over the coming months, which can be visited free of charge.

Learn about who made each artwork, where and why, but also gain access into what makes these works special, different and what to look out for!

This month Linden House will be focussing on a mural by Banksy which hasn’t been removed and resold.

WHAT’S ON IN SHEPHERD’S BUSH

From comedy shows hosting top comedians and critically acclaimed plays to yoga with puppies, we outline what’s on in West London | May 2023 in Shepherd’s Bush.

SATURDAY 27TH MAY – YOGA WITH PUPPIES @ BROADCASTER, WHITE CITY

Join the exciting collaboration with resident pop up yoga club teacher Cassie, for some yoga and puppy cuddles, what’s not to love.

FRIDAY 12TH MAY – BUSH HALL PRESENTS WITH FERN BRADY @ BUSH HALL

Fern Brady, star of Taskmaster and British As Folk headlines a night of comedy at Bush Hall, W12.

She’ll be joined by several well known names, including Olga Koch who had featured in Mock The Week and Live at the Apollo, alongside Catherine Bohart, Huge Davies and Morgan Rees.

SATURDAY 13TH MAY – CHRIS MCCAUSLAND: SPEAKY BLINDER @ O2 SHEPHERD’S BUSH EMPIRE

Well known stand-up comedian Chris McCausland who has starred in Would I Lie to You?, Have I Got News for You, QI, and Live at the Apollo is on tour with a stand-up show about life, family, and loads of other nonsense.

TUESDAY 23RD MAY – FRIDAY 9TH JUNE – INVISIBLE @ BUSH THEATRE

Ahead of its New York premiere this June, the critically acclaimed debut play from Nikhil Parmar, Invisible returns to the Bush Theatre for three weeks.

Invisible is written and performed by Nikhil Parmar, a London-based Manchester-born playwright, screenwriter, and actor. He was previously a member of Bush Theatre’s Emerging Writers’ Group and performed Invisible for Bush Theatre’s 50th anniversary season.

Invisible is about an under-employed actor and over-employed dealer who everyone else sees as lazy, self-centered, and useless. As Zayan attempts to transition from being neglected to being notorious, you see how a man whose brushes with oppression, grief, and the sneaking suspicion that he’s become invisible have driven him to the unforgivable.

WHAT’S ON IN CHISWICK

From celebratory picnics and beautiful flower markets to dog shows and live performances, we outline what’s on in West London | May 2023 in Chiswick.

SATURDAY 6TH MAY – THE BIG SING FOR THE KING @ ST MICHAEL AND ALL ANGELS PARISH HALL, 4.30 PM – 5.30 PM

After the success of last year’s ‘Big Jubilee Sing’, St Michael and All Angels invite you to join them on Coronation Day for well-loved songs.

They will have song sheets, a lead singer, outdoor bar and a charity collection.

SUNDAY 7TH MAY – LUNCH ON THE GREEN @ STRAND ON THE GREEN, 12 PM – 4.30 PM

Celebrate the Coronation by bringing a picnic or buying lunch from local traders at Strand on the Green (in front of The Steam Packet) and enjoy live music, side shows and free activities for all the family. Tables and chairs under cover are free to use.

Ride on Fuller’s horse-drawn dray, blue badge local walks, tombola and cake sales (in aid of Hounslow Food Box) are all available to enjoy.

SUNDAY 7TH MAY – CHISWICK’S CORONATION FLOWER MARKET CELEBRATION @ CHISWICK HIGH ROAD, 9 AM – 3.30 PM

The Chiswick Flower Market will be celebrating the Coronation weekend in Chiswick.

There will be an action packaged programme of entertainment and celebration on the Coronation Sunday for everyone to enjoy.

MONDAY 8TH MAY – DOGGIE DASH @ CHISWICK HOUSE AND GARDENS, 1 PM – 3 PM

Chiswick House and Gardens welcome you to come and join the fun at the Doggie Dash on the Western Lawn (by the Lake) whether you want to watch the fun and fast-paced doggie dash or have your dogs participate.

There will be three classes – for small, medium and large dogs – which will test the dogs by running, lolloping or cantering along a 30-metre run towards their owner, timed down to the very last second.

Made popular by Dogs Trust at the annual Chiswick House Dog Show, this event will be a fun one to attend.

Entry is free but you need to register your dog on the day.

EVERY SUNDAY – THE KIDS’ TABLE @ THE GEORGE IV, 12 PM – 4 PM

Every Sunday The George IV offer customers the opportunity for their children aged 3 – 10 years old to participate in their kids’ table which will entertain them with arts and crafts and creative table-top activities so parents can relax and enjoy a long leisurely lunch.

The table will be supervised and is free for those dining in the pub.

SUNDAY 21ST MAY – OLDER AND WIDER (WORK IN PROGRESS) @ THEATRE AT THE TABARD

From the writers of the internationally successful Grumpy Old Women, award winning comedian Jenny Eclair and producer and writer Judith Holder deliver Older And Wider: Live, a live edition of podcast at Theatre at the Tabard.

Ahead of their shows in the West End this summer, Jenny and Judith work out what a special live edition of the podcast entails in this live performance.

DISCOVER BEDFORD PARK WITH WB YEATS @ BEDFORD PARK

Allow your smartphone or tablet to guide you around ten WB Yeats poetry places (or you can choose your trail) with images, short-info talks, and Ciarán’s readings of great location-specific Yeats poems at each spot.

The main walk includes eight locations and is approximately 1.3 miles. The final two locations on the trail are by the Thames so are a little further afield and add an extra three miles to your route if you want to complete the whole trail.

To launch the app you will need to go to Turnham Green Station. Turn right on leaving the station and cross to Conrad Shawcross’s dazzling EnwoughtLight, click on the information sign’s QR code and the trail will begin.

SUNDAY 27TH MAY – ROBIN HOOD: FAMILY OUTDOOR THEATRE @ CHISWICK HOUSE AND GARDENS PICNIC AREA

The award-winning company Illyria presents Robin Hood (adapted by Oliver Gray), an action-packed heist for the whole family.

With King Richard away at war, the rich will break every rule to seize power. Luckily, so is the swashbuckling Robin Hood and his misfit rebels. They plot to bring down the greedy Sheriff of Nottingham and every other villain along the way.

Doors open at 2 pm and performance starts at 2.30 pm. The show is 2 hours long with a 30 minute interval.

WHAT’S ON IN WEST LONDON | MAY 2023

SUNDAY 7TH MAY – CHILDREN’S THEATRE – THE STORY GAME (6+ YEARS) @ THE WATERMANS CENTRE, 3 PM

Hosted by Andrew Barnett Jones who has made up stories for top TV shows including Mr Bean: The Animated Series, Dennis the Menace and Gnasher, Shaun the Sheep, The 4 O’Clock Club and The Slammer. 

With the help of the audience, Andrew will be playing The Story Game, creating a funny, wildly creative story from a handful of words, a roll of the dice and his own imagination. 

You’ll leave the theatre inspired to play the game yourself and make up your own stories with friends and family.

BBC EARTH EXPERIENCE @ THE DAIKIN CENTRE, EARLS COURT

The London attraction allows audiences of all ages to explore the extraordinary diversity of our seven continents, connect with mesmerising animals and venture into the depths of the water world all in one place.

This immersive journey, with bespoke narration by David Attenborough, features incredible footage from the television series Seven Worlds, One Planets projected across multiple multi-angle screens.

It is a self guided tour so you can choose your own route and wander at your own pace. There are different storylines to enjoy, alongside break out zones to explore including the Micro Life and Water Life zones.
