If you’re planning to spend part or all of the coming summer months in West London and specifically in or around W4, you’ll be keen to know what’s on in Chiswick in June, July and August 2022.
Here we highlight some of the upcoming events to be held in W4 from markets to festivals, outdoor cinemas, and open-mic nights; there’s a lot to add to the diary!
June 2022
10 June until 26 June – Bedford Park Festival
The Bedford Park festival takes place each year in June and is one of the highlights of the Chiswick calendar – it also means June is one of the busiest months for events in W4. The Bedford Park Festival raises money for the work of St Michael and All Angels and its three chosen charities.
Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June – Green Days Fete & Craft Fair on Acton Green
One of the most notable events taking place during the Bedford Park Festival is the Green Days Fete which after a two-year break during the pandemic, is returning to the calendar.
Held on Acton Green opposite Turnham Green Station, the fete includes a variety of entertainment and activities for all ages from the fun fair rides to the craft stalls and beer tent.
Saturday 11 June – Fancy Dress Competition @ St Michael & All Angels Church
As part of the Bedford Park Festival, there will be a children’s fancy dress competition held on 11 June. The theme is The Queen’s Jubilee. Children aged up to 10 years old can enter the competition All competitors are to meet at St Michael & All Angels Parish Hall at 10.30, before a parade.
Friday 17 June until Sunday 19 June – Artists at Home @ various locations
Over 50 local artists and craftspeople will open their home-based studios in Chiswick, Hammersmith and Shepherd’s Bush on Friday 17 June from 6-9pm and on Saturday and Sunday between 11am and 6pm.
Horton and Garton proudly sponsor the annual Artists at Home event, a real celebration of local art and crafts. Visitors can buy works at studio prices, place commissions or simply enjoy browsing. An interactive map can be found on the Artists at Home website.
Saturday 18 June – Children’s Jubilee Biscuit Decorating Competition @ St Michael & All Angels Church
The Bedford Park Festival really does have something for every age and on the 18 June at 10.30 a biscuit competition is taking place to make the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The biscuits will be supplied at £2 each, decoration will take place on-site. All entries will be judged by cookery writer and broadcaster Jo Pratt. Suitable for ages 5-11.
Saturday 18 June – Jazz on A Summer’s Night @ St Michael & All Angels Church
Amongst the wonderful events taking place during the Bedford Park Festival, on Saturday 18 June the Denis Smith Trio featuring vocalist Vanessa Rose will be at St Michael & All Angel’s Church for an evening of bossa nova and classic jazz. Starting at 19.30, tickets are £15 per person and are available to purchase online.
Sunday 19 June – Chiswick Cheese Market @ Old Market Place
Find over 150 kinds of cheese at the monthly Chiswick Cheese Market that is held on Old Market Place outside Planet Organic on Chiswick High Road. Not limited to cheese there are chutneys, crackers and many related items on sale.
Saturday 25 June – Nonesuch Orchestra Concert with Ballet Premiere @ St Alban’s Church, Acton Green
On Saturday 25 June the Nonesuch Orchestra will give its 60th anniversary concert at St Alban’s Church, Acton Green at 7.30pm, with a programme featuring the ballet premiere of Off the Ground (2021) by celebrated local composer Cecilia McDowall, with new choreography by Donna Schoenherr, Director of Ballet4Life, and works by Handel and Bartok.
Sunday 26 June – Bedford Park Open Gardens @ various homes in Bedford Park
From 2pm to 6pm on Sunday 26 June a host of local residents open their gardens for all to enjoy. Those wishing to visit the most beautiful gardens in the locality should collect a map from the Parish Hall at St Michaels and All Angels and receive a sticker to show you have paid the £10 ticket fee before setting off to see some of the most inspiring outside spaces in West London. Cream teas will also be available from the Parish Hall.
July 2022
Saturday 2 July – Pink Ribbon Walk volunteer @ Chiswick House & the Thames
The Pink Ribbon Walk, raising money for Breast Cancer Now will take place on Saturday 2 July, starting and finishing at Chiswick House & Grounds. The route for Chiswick’s Pink Ribbon Walk runs along the Thames so those joining can enjoy some of the most wonderful riverside views in West London. Learn more about the event on the website.
Sunday 3 July – Chiswick Flower Market @ Old Market Place
On the first Sunday of every month, Chiswick Flower Market takes place at the Old Market Place. Not limited to just cut flowers, there are indoor and outdoor plants and all the garden accessories you might need on offer amongst the many stalls.
Saturday 16 July – Seasonal cooking with Becky Wilkinson at Neptune, Chiswick High Road
Becky Wilkinson, one of Neptune’s favourite cooks, has put together 8 recipes making the most of seasonal produce and will be showing those in attendance how to make each dish, with recipe cards to take home. There will be two demonstrations – one at 11am and one at 2pm. Tickets cost £10 – book your place by emailing chiswick@neptune.com, calling them on 020 3814 1220 or popping into the shop on Chiswick High Road.
Saturday 17 July – Jubilee Party on the Pier on Chiswick Pier
Plans for this year’s party on the pier are shaping up; there will be a boat offering free boat trips, a band will be playing live music and Amanda’s Action Kids will be there providing children’s entertainment. Fun for all the family.
Friday 22 – Sunday 24 July – The Luna Cinema @ Chiswick House & Grounds
Chiswick House & Grounds are hosting The Luna Cinema for three days where ticket holders can enjoy the cinema under the stars – the screenings include Belfast, Pretty Woman and Some Like it Hot. Tickets are available to buy via The Luna Cinema.
Saturday 30 July – Duck Pond Market @ Chiswick House & Grounds
On the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturday of each month The Duck Pond Market takes place at Chiswick House & Grounds. A popular Artisan and Foodies Market filled with stalls from local ethical and sustainable independent businesses. From street food to gifts and crafts, there really is something for everyone and with each market slightly different there’s always something new to discover.
August 2022
What’s on in Chiswick in August 2022? There are a variety of events taking place in W4. For events that might be added to the calendar with shorter notice, The Chiswick Calendar is an excellent place to look for inspiration and the latest updates.
Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 August – Ferne Cotton’s Happy Place Festival @ Chiswick House & Grounds
On Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 August, Ferne Cotton’s festival, a creative space for self-love and happiness will return. Those in attendance will hear enlightening talks from Ferne herself together with several special guests.
Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 August – Shakespeare in the Garden – The Taming of the Shrew @ The George IV, Chiswick High Road
George IV is hosting a four-person performance allowing those in attendance to enjoy Shakespeare as it was intended; raucous, informal, in a pub garden with a drink in hand – though this performance will have a contemporary twist. Tickets are £20pp, bookable in advance online.
Every Sunday – The Food Market Chiswick @ Dukes Meadows
For many locals, The Food Market has become an integral part of their weekly shop, tucked away in Dukes Meadows, it’s possible that not all West Londoners are aware of the market’s existence. Taking place every Sunday between 10am and 2pm it’s well worth a stop in for fresh and homemade produce.
